DOGS
DON'T READ, BUT THEY LOVE A GOOD STORY!
Doggie Tales introduces children in grades 1-5, to a four-legged
friend...and then the magic begins. Each child selects a fun book to
read to his or her new doggie pal. Tails wag as tales are told and each
child practices his or her reading skills with a new friend who loves a
good story and won't interrupt or criticize. Doggie Tales helps to
build self-esteem and reading skills. We need career change dogs and older puppies in training able to lie still for a period of time to volunteer for this program. The sessions are always from 2:00-4:00 p.m. the second Saturday of the month, and rotate to various Arapahoe Library District branches. (Plan to arrive 15 minutes early for training and to settle in before the children start arriving). Dogs stay for two hours and are read to by four children in that time, with each child reading for about 20 minutes. After the reading, dogs "Pawtograph" a book for the child to take home (with a little help from their raisers). Contact Carmen if you need help evaluating if your puppy is ready for the program. If you are available and would like to help out, contact Trevor at trevork@lamarco.com. |
