The Invitation
	12th Annual HPWT Halloween Chili Dinner and Costume Contest Leave your "Lab Tops" at home but bring your Labradors to the EVIL DOGTOR'S LABORATORY for an explosive time! Shepherds and Goldens will gather with the Labs for metamorphosis into the identity of their dreams. Costume awards will be given in these categories: Best Namesake; Famous Person; Movie Character; Best Team; Best "Halloween"; Most Original When: Tuesday October 25 6:00 p.m. Dinner 7:00 p.m. Costume Preparation 7:15 contest Where: Arapahoe County multi-purpose room All GDB Puppies in Training, Career Change Dogs, and Working Guides (and their people) are invited! RSVP to your club leaders by October 15!

THE PARTY
Register for your favorite costume category when you come in.	Kids got a mask to wear when they registered.

Dinner consists of chili, salad, soft drinks, corn bread, dessert, and great company.

Photographers Jane and Russell Smoak were on hand for professional photos of the costumes.

THE CONTEST
The stage is set....

Winners get to choose from dozens of wonderful donated prizes.

Master of Ceremonies Jack McPartland's gentle good humor kept the costume contest flowing smoothly	Judges Julie Landon & Megan Ellis, from the Animal E.R. blood donor program, had the difficult job of choosing winners from among some of the most creative and elaborate costumes ever in the history of the HPWT Costume Contest.

THE COSTUMES
Best Team Category
1st Place Hessy the Fisherman caught the cutest lobster in the ocean for the party!	2nd Place With a name like Sherwood, who else could this black lab be than Robin Hood? Retired guide Jasper plays along as Friar Tuck, and Miranda gets in the act as Maid Marion.

Lisa and Fresco stepped from the pages of a fairy tale with their interpretation of "The Frog Prince."	Beth and T.J. : Two Old Clowns

Bikers Amanda and Icon make a great couple!	Champion and Barb chewed up the scenery as a WW Wrestling Champion and Trainer.

Labelle and Lodge as Ms. Pepper and Mr. Salt	James poses with his Madera, Debut and Decade, who came as "three dog night"

Most Original Category
1st Place Breeze gave the crowd a good laugh with her impression of a "Lavatory Retriever!"	2nd Place Dot and Womack came as a duck hunter and duck-- complete with quacking duck call!

Working Guide Rodeo as "When Pigs Fly."	Wendy poses with Brunswick, who is dressed a wildcat.

"Pearl" Harbor got in the spirit of her name as a Hawaiian Hula Dancer. Casey has that island look about her, too!	Franzi showed us some beefcake as a Chip and Dale's dancer.

Sable buzzed in as a bee.	Guava is cute as "fancy fruit!"

Best Namesake
1st Place Oak's namesake costume is complete with colorful fall oak leaves, and a squirrel climbing up his "trunk."

2nd Place - Tie Bob as "Bob the Builder."	2nd Place - Tie Whitman was sweet as a box of Whitman's candy!

Noelani 's name is Hawaiian for "beautiful one from heaven." She lives up to her name in her angel costume!	Astaire put on his top hat to impersonate the famous dancer Fred Astaire.

	Shiloh turned into a beagle in honor of the titular character from the popular children's book.
Alpine came as an alpine skier--complete with snow pants and skis!	Jeremy as athlete Jeremy Bloom.

Movie Character
1st Place Clint looks good enough to eat in his Cookie Monster costume.	2nd Place Emmett's movie character was the "Three Banditos" Bill and Harry complete the trio.

Black lab Warner is a natural as Darth Vader	Joel as Superman.

Famous Person
1st Place Gingko goes walking as the "Girl from Ipanema"	2nd Place Gidget is "Sunbonnet Sue" of quilt pattern fame.

Best Halloween
1st Place Hatch portrays Bat Dog	2nd Place Rigo as a bee

Maylee is a princess--pretty in pink	Gilla's looking devilish tonight.

	It is Dasher, Dancer, or Rudolph? Nope, it's Olive, the other raindeer, of course!

Bubbling cauldrons of love potion: To Lisa Taylor and Arapahoe County 4H for seamless arrangement of room set up...microphone, tables, and stage. To Shaylen King (4H) who came early in the evening to welcome the contestants and make sure we had everything we needed. To Janet Ford for trying to help decorate, but got locked out of the building, by accident! To Le Kathryn Champine for our many many many fun, beautiful prizes and donations. Lizz Landert for the classic puppy posters and books, etc. offered in the prize corner and taking tons of stage photos. To Russell and Jane Smoak for our professional portrait opportunity. They also brought the cheese and that festive fall set which enhanced the party atmosphere immensely! To Caroline Wriston and Liberty on Leashes for a smooth and easy registration table and plenty of drinks. To Jack and Bonnie McPartland for running the costume contest with unmatched style and flair, and recruiting our judges. To our on-the-spot judges...Megan and Julie from Animal ER...who have the toughest job of all!!! They also brought the Kong goodies for our prize table. To Wendy Kalkus for designing our invitation flyer and creating our Evil Dogtors Laboratory theme. To Carmen Moyer and all HPWT chefs who sacrificed any "new car smell" remaining to the chili vapors forever. To Dot Dill for making extra chili and Dogs with Vision for lots of drinks. To Paws for Sight and the Eckhart family for the tasty cornbread and everlasting Christmas tree. To Sidekicks for Sight for fresh salads and tasty desserts. To Beth Nelson for her big yummy salad and her smiley memorable clown face. To Barb Witcher for her cigar and helping with cleanup.
